What Are Dental Veneers?

Veneers are thin porcelain shells customized to create the ideal version of a patient’s smile by concealing flaws like chips, cracks, stains, gaps, and misshapen teeth. Our office uses veneers made from porcelain, allowing them to provide a beautiful and lifelike appearance while being durable enough to withstand the pressures of everyday chewing. Veneers are also stain-resistant so that they can stay gorgeous for as long as possible, and they can last for fifteen years or more before needing replacement if they receive excellent care.

The Process of Getting Veneers

The journey to receiving porcelain veneers begins with a consultation at our office. During this meeting, our doctor will evaluate your oral health while discussing your goals and preferences. After you’re cleared for treatment, you’ll come in for the first appointment of the placement process. Our doctor will begin by using a local anesthetic to numb the area before removing a small amount of enamel from the treated teeth and taking impressions. Your teeth will then receive a temporary set of veneers, and you will be scheduled to come back to our office after your permanent set has been skillfully crafted at a laboratory.

During your second appointment, our doctor will remove your temporary veneers and cement your permanent set in place. After any final adjustments, you’ll be ready to meet the world with your gorgeous new grin.

  • Being made from beautiful, stain-resistant porcelain
  • Lasting for fifteen years or more with excellent care

  • Being customized to fit seamlessly with the rest of the patient’s smile, ensuring that casual observers will not realize that they are there

Understanding the Cost of Veneers

Since veneers are usually considered an elective procedure that isn’t medically necessary, insurance doesn’t usually cover the treatment. However, we offer several ways to make the overall cost more manageable, including:

  • Financing options: We offer financing plans through CareCredit, allowing patients to break their bills into easy monthly payments with little or no interest.
  • Dental membership plan: For only $79 a year for one individual and an additional $70 for each additional member, our in-house savings plan through VantageOne provides discounts on many of our preventive, restorative, and cosmetic dental services.

Our team will be happy to help you understand and navigate your payment options, so please give our office a call if you need any assistance.

Veneers FAQs

Are veneers permanent?

Veneers need to be replaced every 25 or so years, or whenever they fall off or become damaged, which is why they’re not considered a permanent treatment. However, before you can get veneers, dental enamel will need to be removed from your teeth to allow the restorations to lay flush with your surrounding teeth. As a result, veneers will always need to be covering the teeth for protection because enamel doesn’t grow back. Because of these factors, it’s safe to call them semi-permanent due to their lifespan and the fact that you will need to continue having them replaced once you commit to treatment.

Are there foods I need to avoid with veneers?

With your temporary veneers, you’ll need to be mindful of eating particularly chewy, hard, or sticky foods like raw fruits and vegetables. However, once you get your permanent veneers, you’ll be able to expand your diet greatly. While your restorations will be very durable, it’s important to keep in mind that they’re still not quite as strong as your natural teeth, so steer clear of extremely hard and crunchy foods.

How long do veneers last?

In 2012, a study of 318 participants with veneers found that 83 percent lasted 20 years. In some cases, veneers have been shown to last up to 30 years with a mindful diet and good oral hygiene and professional maintenance. The best way to care for your new restorations is by coming in for routine checkups and cleanings every six months. You can also preserve the adhesive by being mindful of your intake of alcoholic beverages, which can break down the adhesive faster.

What materials are veneers made from?

Veneers in Broken Arrow can be crafted from a number of natural-looking dental materials, like ceramic, porcelain, and resin. These are custom-crafted to match the natural shade of your surrounding teeth to make them flawlessly blend in with the rest of your smile. Depending on your desired outcome, you may opt for any one of these materials, as they all offer their own unique benefits.

Can veneers be whitened?

Unfortunately, veneers cannot be whitened due to the fact that they’re crafted from stain-resistant materials that are less porous than natural teeth. If you receive teeth whitening with veneers, your natural teeth would become much brighter, while your veneers would stay the same shade, causing your smile to be two-toned.
